Today I was told, for the 100th time, how cool it was going to be to have Stockbox in the old M Street Grocery space. While I appreciate the excitement, I need to clarify that Stockbox will be located elsewhere….
In late August, we will be opening our doors at the corner of 9th & James!
This space represents an important step for Stockbox:
- We are in the corner unit, along a busy street, in Seattle’s densest neighborhood!
- The store is four times the size of our South Park store (although still very much in line with our small format model)
- And we will be working in association with our new “landlords”: Harborview Medical Center
When Harborview approached us about this space last year, we were surprised to learn they were interested in working with Stockbox, specifically, because we could offer fresh lunch options for their staff and improve access to fresh food inside the neighborhood.
It turns out they had been actively seeking to fill their retail space with businesses that were in line with their mission as a medical center and were targeting businesses responded to needs identified by neighbors within the community.
And, of course, we are excited to work with Harborview because of the overlap in our work. After all, we may offer different services, but we are each committed to the same goals of community service, healthy living, and reaching underserved populations. And we are dedicated to working together to demonstrate this shared commitment, through on-site education, resources, and activities.
We will be reaching out to our new neighbors over the next couple months to gain a better understanding of how we can design the store and the inventory selection to respond to what First Hill wants and needs. But, in the meantime, keep an eye on the corner of 9th and James, to see how it’s all coming together. We can’t wait to be your new neighborhood grocery, where neighbors and good food meet!
